- 3rd Tuesday's of Every Month (5:45 - 6:45 PM) - For Cancer Caregivers and Former Caregivers

Here are a few statistics provided in 2015 by the National Cancer Instute

  • In 2015, an estimated 1,658,370 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United State is and 589,430 people will die from the disease..
  • Approximately 39.6 percent of men and women will be diagnosed with cancer at some point during their lifetimes (based on 2010-2012 data).
  • In 2014, an estimated 15,780 children and adolescents ages 0 to 19 were diagnosed with cancer and 1,960 died of the disease.
  • The number of people living beyond a cancer diagnosis reached nearly 14.5 million in 2014 and is expected to rise to almost 19 million by 2024.
  • We believe that faith, spirituality, prayer and hope that the Church provides is one factor in the wholistic approach (in additon to clinical medicine) to assist in the overall treatment of cancer patients and their caregivers.  While we know that miracles exists, have occurred and will continue to occur, not everyone receives a miracle.  The goal of this ministry is to walk alongside cancer patients and their caregivers by providing information and spiritual support.  We do this by pairing up cancer patients with cancer survivors; and caregivers and former caregivers; to provide information unique testimonial nsight through the experiencial component, as well as offering educational, spiritual and emotional support.  What we do mot offer is medical or legal advice.

We understand that the nature of cancer itself does not afford the cancer patient, nor caregiver, the opportunity to attend sessions such as these on a continual basis. These once a month cancer care ministry meetings are designed to be an inital point of contact for introductory information, then to receive ongoing spiritual and emotional support throughout the journey. So, we anticipate most of the ministry offered will be outside of these once a month meetings.

Facilitating this ministry will be Pastor Mike (with others assisting), who was originally diagnosed as a Stage 4 Inoperable Pancreatic Cancer Patient in May 2014, who is now a cancer survivor.  In addition to personal experience, Mike has pastoral care education and clinical experience in the hospital setting, as well as recently being trained as a Cancer Care Ministrer through Our Journey of Hope at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Philidelphia, PA.

For Cancer Survivors and Former Caregivers of Cancer PatientsPerhaps you would like to "give back" by getting involved in cancer care ministry?  If so, please, please contact us at (703) 644-8180.

There is no charge to attend any of the sessions for the Cancer Care Ministry, all you have to do is sign up for our next session, fill out the Sign Up Form or call 703-644-8180 for any questions that you might have.  Seating is very limited and will be on a first come, first serve basis.  Please know that we are praying for you on this Cancer journey and REMEMBER, "THERE IS HOPE!"
